Building TanTaa, a calmer place to meet.

I’m Ismail Farah Abdullahi, the founder and CEO of TanTaa. I’m building a dating and social app where people can meet without pressure, become friends first, and have real conversations in a safer, more private space. His work also spans Vixzz, a cross border money transfer platform.

The story

Why I built TanTaa

“Dating should feel human. Less noise, less pressure, and more room for people to be themselves.”

TanTaa began with a simple idea: the best connections rarely start with a performance. They start with curiosity, kindness and enough space to feel comfortable. That belief shapes how TanTaa is designed, from friends first messaging to private calls and voice notes.

I’m involved in the product, the safety decisions and the everyday details that make TanTaa feel calmer. I believe a dating app should help people meet without making them feel rushed, judged or exposed.

The human case

A slower app for a more human experience.

Modern dating products often measure success by the number of matches, the speed of a reply or the length of a session. Ismail is more interested in whether a person feels comfortable enough to be honest. A dating app can generate activity without creating connection. It can create the appearance of choice while making people feel more uncertain.

TanTaa begins from a different question. What would a dating product look like if it respected the time, privacy and emotional energy of the people using it? The answer is not a promise of perfect compatibility. It is a calmer structure in which two people can decide whether they want to keep talking.

That structure shows up in small decisions. Friendship comes before messaging. Interest has to be mutual before a conversation opens. Photos, voice notes and calls give people more ways to express themselves, but they do not remove the need for consent or control. The interface is intentionally quiet because the experience outside the interface is already complicated.

Privacy is part of the relationship

A person who shares a photo or a voice note is making a small decision about trust. Ismail treats that decision as important. TanTaa is designed to keep personal details private, avoid exposing precise location and give members control over who can reach them. The product also supports encrypted local storage and password protected backups for people who want to keep their data close.

Privacy is not only a settings screen. It is the reason a person can relax enough to participate. A dating app that makes people feel watched, exposed or pressured has misunderstood the job. The job is to create enough safety for a real conversation to begin.

Safety is not a feature launch

Ismail does not describe safety as a feature that can be added at the end. It is a practice that has to be present in the way reports are received, the way accounts are reviewed and the way the app communicates its standards. TanTaa is for adults 18 and over, with reporting and blocking tools and published child safety standards.

The harder work is consistency. A reporting flow has to work when someone is upset. A block has to change what happens next. A policy has to be applied without exception. Those are operational commitments, not design details. They are also the reason a founder has to stay close to the product after the first release.

A founder across two kinds of technology

Ismail's work also spans Vixzz, a cross border money transfer platform. Money and relationships might seem like opposite parts of technology, but both depend on confidence. People need to know where their money is. They need to know how their personal information is handled. They need a clear path when something does not go as expected.

That common thread is what makes his approach recognizable across products. He is less interested in a dramatic launch than in the ordinary reliability that makes a product worth returning to. For TanTaa, that means building a place where people can meet without feeling rushed, exposed or reduced to a profile card. The ambition is not to make dating feel effortless. It is to make it feel human again.

What I believe

Built around people, not pressure.

01

Friends first

Conversation should begin when both people feel ready, not because a timer ran out.

02

Privacy by design

Your distance stays approximate, your messages stay private, and your data stays yours.

03

Safety is product work

Reporting, blocking and clear standards are part of the experience, not an afterthought.
